The Executive Chairman of Jos South Local Government Area, Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, expressed gratitude to security heads, traditional rulers, and religious leaders for attending a crucial stakeholders’ engagement aimed at addressing the recent surge in violent incidents in the region. The meeting was organized by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army/Commander OPSH, Major General E.F. Oyinlola.

The meeting, which brought together key stakeholders from Jos South and Ryom LGAs, sought to foster dialogue and develop strategies to curb the resurgence of killings, cattle rustling, and farm destruction, which have heightened tensions in the area.

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, represented by Rt. Hon. Micheal Dapianlong, Special Adviser on Community Relations called for peace, emphasizing its importance to society.

Also bearing his heart at the meeting, the Executive Chairman of Ryom, Hon. Sati Bature Shuwa, expressed grief over the loss of eight people he had just buried in Ryom. He emphasized the importance of peace and security, calling for an end to the senseless killings in the state.

Responding to submissions made during the meeting, the GOC 3 Division, Maj. Gen. Oyinlola, stressed the importance of dialogue and shared his contact number for emergencies. He urged LG Chairmen to conduct biometric registration of cattle, herders, and locals to help identify external attackers. He also reiterated that all human life is sacred and should be treated as such.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Dung, in his closing remarks, emphasized the need to revive family values as a lasting solution to the recurring crises. He urged all leaders present to take the discussions seriously and implement resolutions in their respective communities.

While acknowledging the efforts of security agencies in maintaining peace, Hon. Dung called for sustained engagement beyond the meeting. He also appealed for similar engagements across Plateau State, expressing hope for a lasting solution to the crisis.

The meeting was held against the backdrop of renewed violence in Jos South and Ryom LGAs, where incidents of killings, cattle rustling, and farm destruction have disrupted the relative peace enjoyed in recent months.

With the rainy season approaching, concerns were raised over the potential impact of farm disruptions on livelihoods. Stakeholders stressed the need for collective action to prevent further escalation.

The engagement provided a platform for community leaders to voice concerns, jointly develop conflict-resolution strategies, and reaffirm their commitment to peaceful coexistence.

The Deputy ALGON Chairman, concluded by thanking attendees and praying for the implementation of the resolutions, urging all to work together for lasting peace in Plateau State.
