The Executive Chairman of Jos South Local Government Area, Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, today, visited the Gyel community, following a violent attack that left two people dead and one injured.

During his visit, Hon. Dung commiserated with the family of the deceased and the wider community. He called for unity among residents and stressed the need for prayer for protection and healing.

The Chairman urged the people to remain vigilant and pleaded with them to promptly report any suspicious activities to local authorities. He emphasized the importance of sharing intelligence to help curb the trend of attacks and promised that his administration would continue engagements and explore all legal options to end the violence.

A local youth leader Mr Samson Elisha Choji, described the incident, which occurred two evenings prior. He recounted hearing widespread gunshots around 7 PM, which prompted residents to emerge from their homes. They discovered a gruesome scene where a respected community elder, identified as Da Pam Choji, had been fatally shot inside his shop. Evidence indicated the assailants had fired through a window.

A second victim, a commercial motorcycle rider, was killed while dropping off a passenger. The passenger sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and is currently in stable condition at a local clinic.

The youth leader stated that the assailants are suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, alleging that their recent presence in the area was linked to a search for a missing person.
