The Executive Chairman of Jos South LGA, Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, on Thursday 10th July, flagged off the construction of the Vwang Kogot Bridge amid massive community celebrations. Residents expressed profound gratitude for the long-awaited project during a ceremony marked by enthusiastic turnout.

The event, held at the proposed site of the bridge, saw enthusiastic participation from community leaders, government officials, and locals, predominantly farmers, who cheered as construction equipment and materials were already stationed on site, signaling the project’s immediate commencement.

The bridge is expected to revolutionize agricultural activities in the area, enabling farmers to transport their produce to markets faster and in better condition Previously, seasonal floods cut off access, causing delays and post-harvest losses.

Beyond agricultural benefits, the bridge will establish reliable year round access between Vwang Kogot and surrounding villages, fostering economic and social ties that were previously weather dependent.

The Chairman, represented by his Deputy, Ngo Lucy Michael, emphasized the administration’s commitment to grassroots development.

She said “This project is for life by the grace of God, it will last for generations”, adding that government is for the people.

She praised the Chairman for his dedication to fulfilling campaign promises, stating, “Hon. Silas Patrick Dung is a man of action, not just words”.

On his part, the Leader of the 7th Legislative Arm, Rt. Hon. Chomoshen Emmanuel, commended the Chairman for prioritizing the bridge.

He said “If we had missed the opportunity to work with a leader like Hon. Dung, we would have regretted it”. This is a government that works for the people, not one that only seeks votes and disappears.”

The Gwom Rwei Vwang, HRH Da Gyang Balak, expressed deep appreciation, recalling how previous administrations ignored the community’s plight. “I nearly got swept away by floodwaters here once,” he said. “Today, we are seeing real change. Our votes have not been in vain.”

He called on the contractor to collaborate with traditional leaders for smooth project execution and assured community support.

A representative from Transparent Construction Company assured residents of quality work and a swift completion timeline. “We aim to finish in two months, not three,” he said, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation for security and progress.

The ceremony concluded with symbolic ground breaking, marking the start of a project expected to significantly improve connectivity and safety for Vwang Kogot residents.
