In the spirit of Christmas, the Executive Chairman of Jos South Local Government, Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, has brought glad tidings of great joy to the frontline sanitation workers in the local government, who keep the streets clean.
During a special festive engagement, Hon. Silas, who also serves as the Deputy ALGON Chairman, announced transformative welfare measures, beginning with a landmark 100% salary increase for all street cleaners, effective January 2026.
Hon. Silas also unveiled immediate safety interventions to protect workers from the hazards of their duties. Reflective jackets will be procured and distributed in 2026, and portable caution signs will be deployed on major roads to alert motorists and prevent accidents.
The staff in attendance received the news positively, acknowledging the commitments as meaningful steps toward better working conditions.
The Chairman had earlier met with ad-hoc staff, sharing bags of rice as a Christmas gift, a gesture of appreciation for their service throughout the year. He promised that his administration would continuously prioritize workers’ welfare.
The announcements were met with gratitude from the sanitation staff, who described the measures as a sign of being valued by the local government.
Hon. Silas concluded by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, adding, “May the hope and joy of this season guide us into a safer, more prosperous New Year.”
