The Executive Chairman of Jos South Local Government Area Hon. Silas Patrick Dung has embarked on a comprehensive inspection tour of ongoing construction projects across the council’s five districts yesterday, expressing overall satisfaction with progress and standards observed.
The tour covered multiple critical infrastructure sites. The first stop was Vwang Kogot, where the Deputy ALGON Chairman inspected the construction of a 3 Celled Box Culvert. He expressed appreciation for the significant progress made by the contractors, Transparent Company Ltd., commending the quality of work. The project is vital for alleviating the severe seasonal flooding that causes loss of lives and isolates the community, particularly during rains. The Bridge will also improve connectivity with neighboring Ryom LGA and enhance security and emergency access, eliminating dangerous delays for urgent situations like medical emergencies.
Reviewing the timeline, the Chairman noted it remains on track and expressed strong confidence that the contractors will meet the deadline. He assured contractors that project funding is secure and promised timely payments upon submission of payment certificates to prevent delays often caused by financial hold-ups. He further commended contractors for actively engaging local community members near all project sites to boost morale and improve their local economy.
At LEA Primary School Turu, the Chairman was satisfied with the work’s progress but reminded the contractor of the project’s deadline. Moving to the nearly complete Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Dakun Pyam, Turu ‘A’, he thanked the community for entrusting the project to the local government for completion. He highlighted the significance of finally providing a PHC for this large community. The clinic is approximately 98% complete, with only minor observations noted for correction.
The inspection also revealed varying progress at educational facilities.
LEA Pegi, Kuru. The fencing project, spanning about 510 meters, is complete and gated. For security concerns related to the neighbouring community, the Chairman ordered the rear section of the fence to be raised.
At LEA Gyel, work was observed to be progressing slower than other sites, despite acknowledged challenges in sourcing specified roofing materials. While the quality of work done so far was noted, the pace was a point of attention.
At St. George’s Primary School, Rayfield, the renovation of two classroom blocks drew strong praise. One block is nearly finished. The Chairman revealed the strategic purpose, that is, upgrading the school to a Junior Secondary School (JSS) status. He highlighted Topp, Rayfield as the most populated community in Du B and stressed the need to provide local JSS access, reducing long distances for students currently attending schools like GSS Anglo Jos and GSS Hei Rayfield.
At the Police Station in Du, construction was reported as 95% complete, pending a few minor adjustments. The final project visited was the renovation at RCM Zaramaganda, where the Chairman expressed particular delight, calling it one of the best sites inspected.
The tour also included brief stops at the completed but awaiting commissioning Bridge in Gura Dabwam and the Skill Acquisition Center in Gyel ‘B’ (Lyoh Gyel).
Summing up the extensive tour, the Executive Chairman conveyed significant satisfaction with the level and standard of work witnessed across all sites. He specifically praised the commitment of the contractors on all the sites. He extended gratitude to Directors, Security personnel, Supervisory Councillors, Councillors, and all officials involved in facilitating the projects and the inspection tour.
