A delegation from the Plateau State Ministry of Water Resources and Energy has visited the Executive Chairman of Jos South, Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, to advance two critical infrastructure projects.
The delegation, led by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Lohnan Vongjen Gambo, stated their primary mission is to collaborate with the local government in sensitizing the community on the dangers of building and farming near high-tension lines and to secure a clear path for contractors to complete the work.
The initiative, launched by the Federal Government through the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), was designed to transmit power from Jos to Pankshin but has remained incomplete for over three decades due to vandalism of towers and cables, as well as significant encroachment on the right of way by residents.
A second key agenda was to engage the council on a state government electrification project in Kwang. The ministry informed the Chairman that, following a community request, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has approved the project’s completion. With the contractor already on site, work is expected to be finalized within weeks, and the delegation sought the council’s assistance in mobilizing community support.
In his response, the Deputy ALGON Chairman acknowledged the state government’s efforts under Governor Mutfwang’s leadership, particularly in reactivating long abandoned projects. He stressed the importance of identifying the exact routes of the high-tension lines to enable effective community sensitization.
Hon. Silas further thanked the state government for the electrification project in Kwang and made a passionate plea for it to be extended to the neighbouring community of Zot Shen. He noted that other areas like Dogonahawa have also languished without electricity for decades
He however pledged the council’s readiness to engage community leaders once detailed maps of the power line corridors are provided.
