The Executive Chairman of Jos South Local Government Council Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, has presented a proposed ₦9.29 billion budget for the 2026 fiscal year, marking a significant financial plan aimed at accelerating development. The budget, christened the “Budget of Restoration 2,” was presented during a session where the chairman also received dual awards for leadership.
The substantial budget, totaling ₦9,286,578,879.31, is designed to be funded through a mix of federal allocations and a sharply increased target for internal revenue. According to the financing blueprint, Statutory Revenue Allocation from the federation account will provide ₦4.5 billion, while Value Added Tax (VAT) will contribute ₦4 billion. A special FAAC allocation is expected to bring in ₦500 million.
A key and assertive focus of the budget is on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), which is projected at ₦276.6 million.
The budget presentation session took on a celebratory tone as legislators took turns to praise the administration’s impactful leadership. The chairman was presented with an award of excellence from the council’s 7th Legislative Arm. He was earlier presented another from the Nigeria Forest Security, Jos South Command, in recognition of supportive management and outstanding achievement.
In his response to the honours, the Chairman expressed profound gratitude, noting the uniqueness of the gesture.
Reflecting on the administration’s journey, he acknowledged the collaborative efforts of councillors from diverse communities. He stressed that the administration’s achievements were a collective result and pledged a continued focus on actionable work. The Chairman highlighted a philosophy of delivering what communities need, rather than what officials want to give, and called for sustained collective responsibility to build the local government.
“Collectively, we must succeed,” he stated, while also tempering expectations by noting that not all problems can be solved immediately. He urged the councillors to use the new budget cycle as an opportunity to deepen engagement with their constituents and reinforce public confidence.
