In a whirlwind of community engagement, the Executive Chairman of Jos South Local Government Area, Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, oversaw the delivery of long awaited electricity transformers to four communities, ending years of total blackout and inadequate power supply.

The benefiting communities are Challang, Kwata, and Dahwol Dangwong (which will also serve Rahwol Kanang) in the Zawan district, and K-Vom in the Vwang district. For many residents, the delivery marked the first tangible improvement in their electricity supply in living memory.

An atmosphere of celebration and profound gratitude enveloped the communities as villagers poured out to receive the equipment. Residents were seen dancing with a mix of tears and laughter, singing praises for the development they described as a lifesaver.

Community leaders and youths who spoke at the various reception points expressed deep appreciation for the initiative, directly crediting Hon. Silas. They hailed him for bringing the “dividends of democracy” to their doorsteps and for being exceptionally accessible to their needs, a trait they said was unprecedented.

“We have never seen a Local Government Chairman like him. He listens, he acts, and he remembers the people in the villages. This light is not just for our homes; it is hope for our businesses,” said the representative of Gwom Kwata, Mr T. C. Davou.

During the handover, the Chairman addressed the communities, stating that the provision of the transformers was a direct response to their specific requests and appeals. He emphasized that fulfilling such basic infrastructure needs was a fundamental duty of his administration.

He, however, charged the communities with the responsibility of safeguarding the new installations. He urged community leaders, youth groups, and vigilantes to protect the transformers from vandalism and theft, ensuring a sustainable power supply for generations to come.

The chairman’s schedule later took a somber turn. Following the community engagements, he stopped by the Divisional Police Headquarters in K-Vom to personally condole with officers over the killing of a colleague on 10th December.

He was received by the DPO, CSP Adamu Haruna, and other officers on duty. During the visit, the chairman expressed his profound sympathy and that of the entire local government to the police command and the family of the fallen officer. He condemned the act of violence and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in maintaining peace and order within the LGA.

The DPO thanked the chairman for the visit, noting that such solidarity from community leadership was a significant morale booster for the officers during a difficult time.
