In a significant move to boost agricultural productivity in Plateau State, His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mannaseh Mutfwang, has officially flagged off the 2026 subsidized fertilizer distribution at Jos South Local Government Council.

The well attended ceremony, which drew the member representing Mangu/Bokkos, Hon. Ishaya Lalu; the Speaker and members of the Plateau State House of Assembly; members of the State Executive Council and other senior government officials; local government chairmen; party officials; candidate for Plateau North Senatorial seat, Simon Mwadkon; Elder Statesmen; traditional and religious leaders; and farmers, marked the beginning of what the governor described as a robust and consistent distribution of farm inputs across the state.

Speaking during his welcoming remarks, the Executive Chairman of Jos South Local Government, Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, expressed profound appreciation for the fact that the council was selected to host the all-important event. He noted that Plateau State is widely known for its peace and hospitality and reaffirmed that Jos South remains a vital contributor to the nation’s food production efforts. Hon. Silas also observed that Governor Mutfwang has consistently delivered on his promises to the people, assuring the crowd that this year’s programme would surpass previous editions in scale and impact.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Mutfwang emphasized that the people of Plateau are the driving force behind his administration, and he pledged to continue working tirelessly for their welfare. He declared that Nigeria looks up to Plateau as the food basket of the nation and expressed unwavering confidence that, despite any attempts to disrupt agricultural activities, the people would not be deterred and such efforts would ultimately fail.

To ensure widespread access, he confirmed that the price of fertilizer had been slashed to just ₦20,000 per unit.

The Governor also stressed the importance of branding agricultural goods, stating that everything grown in Plateau, whether maize, vegetables, or other crops, must carry a distinct identity linked to the state.

Governor Mutfwang officially declared the distribution open, expressing his honour and pleasure in flagging off the exercise for the benefit of all those who live and farm on the Plateau.
