The Executive Chairman of Jos South Local Government Council, Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, has commissioned and distributed 40 motorcycles to security agencies as part of efforts to strengthen security patrols in rural and suburban communities across the area.

Speaking during the distribution ceremony, Hon Silas who is the Deputy ALGON Chairman, noted that the constitutional framework of the Federal Republic of Nigeria enshrines the principle that security cannot be left to security agencies alone, emphasizing that safety remains everyone’s business. He explained that the motorbikes would assist both conventional and non-conventional security personnel in navigating Plateau State’s rocky terrain, where two-wheelers prove more efficient than other vehicles for patrol duties.

The chairman expressed appreciation to the Plateau State Governor His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang for granting Local Government Chairmen the freedom to operate, acknowledging that the initiative would not have been possible without the partnership and synergy between state and local government authorities.

While commending the swift response of conventional security forces to recent challenges in the Gyero area, where marauders were repelled, the chairman issued a direct challenge to security agencies. He called for a shift from merely repelling attackers to arresting and prosecuting them, warning that continued repelling without arrests would only allow attackers to return. He asserted that playing politics with citizens’ lives is unacceptable and that securing citizens remains non-negotiable.

The Commissioner of Police, represented by DCP Lawal Abdulhamid mni, officially commissioned the motorcycles, commending the chairman as the number one chairman in Plateau State for his consistent support of security agencies.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional council, Da Gwom Rwei Vwang Da Gyang Balak praised the initiative, noting that security agencies across the nation are overwhelmed by insecurity. He called on residents to stand up and sincerely assist security agencies.

In a related development, the Chairman also commissioned a newly completed police post at La Dura in Du district. He provided a brief background, explaining that the community had started the project but could not proceed, after which the local government took over, completed it, and gave it its current befitting look. Hon. Silas acknowledged that Du is a large area and that an outpost remains grossly inadequate.

The chairman further disclosed that he had met extensively with the Commissioner of Police to discuss the security situation in Jos South. He gave assurance that both parties are working hand in hand, with hopes of establishing additional divisional police areas in Jos South. According to him, this would reduce the pressure on Bukuru Division, which currently covers a vast territory, and also reduce the wide area coverage of Rantya Division.

The event was attended by the Deputy Chairman of Jos South, Ngo Kachollom Lucy Michael; the Leader of the Jos South Legislative Arm; Jos South APC Chairman, Hon. Yusuf Haruna Pam; Member representing Jos South, Hon. Isaac Dalyop; Hon. Mafeng Gyang, Commissioner, Plateau State House of Assembly Service Commission; Secretary of the Council, Hon. David Dusu Dagwi; Chief of Staff, Hon. Rwang Lojah; Supervisory Councilor for Works, Hon. Victoria Dalyop, other Supervisory Councilors and appointees; Major General M.
