Two years into office, the administration of Hon. Silas Patrick Dung has paid attention to all sectors of the economy, from education to health, road infrastructure, and citizen empowerment. The administration has also considered the electrification of rural communities to support families, businesses, and institutions for effective functioning and improved productivity. The administration has maintained a balance across districts and wards, based on the needs and desires of the people. Notable achievements in this sector within Jos South Local Government Area include:
Zawan District:
Over the years, notable areas have suffered poor electricity supply due to lack of transformers. Based on this need, the administration of Hon. Silas Patrick Dung made efforts to provide and install transformers in the following communities:
1. Kwata Zawan
2. Dashat Zawan
3. Rahwol Dangong (Dorowa Axis)
These aforementioned areas had suffered inadequate power supply as a result of lower-capacity transformers. This administration provided and installed 500KVA transformers to replace 100KVA and 300KVA transformers that had become inadequate due to growing population and businesses in the areas. Today, families have adequate power supply and businesses are thriving significantly.
Kuru District:
The people of Kushe Ward in Kuru District have been among those who have suffered poor electricity supply. This ward is a growing community in terms of family and economic activities, yet constrained by inadequate power supply. This administration intervened by providing a 500KVA transformer to consolidate the initial lower power supply. Since this improvement, households and businesses have been enjoying relatively improved power supply, making economic activities more viable.
Vwang District:
In Turu A, K/Vom Community has been one of the areas most affected by poor power supply. A largely growing community with families, students, and businesses, it has been constrained by inadequate power supply. This administration, at the request of the community, provided a 100KVA transformer to ease the burden on already installed transformers. The response from this community has been positive. Now, families, students, and businesses enjoy great improvement in power supply, making livelihoods better.
Du District:
Areas like Zot (Shen) in Du District have also suffered poor electricity supply. This administration has made available a 500KVA transformer for the community, which is ready for installation. This administration wishes to clearly note that it is our desire for the people of Shen Ward to have this infrastructure installed. However, constraints resulting from community-based issues have hindered this progress. We are convincingly hopeful that the issues will be resolved and the people will enjoy the dividends of this administration in no distant time.
Streetlightening from Rahwol Kanang to Ladura Du. The path from Rahwol Kanang to Ladura Du have been a dark lonely road especially at night, this condition have provided an avenue for criminally like theft, substance abuse and high rate of motorcycle and car accidents. To solve this problem, relevant institutions like, police, road safety and motorists have been enabled by providing streetlights covering over four kilometres. Since this improvement, criminally and road accidents have been reduced to the barest minimum.
It is important to note that although this administration has made strong efforts to support electricity companies to improve power supply to our people, we are fully aware that there are areas still yearning for the kind of interventions we have made so far. Your requests and desires are on our table, and as resources are made available, we will reach out. Our most sincere desire is to ensure that no community is left stranded due to lack of or inadequate power supply. Just as we have collaborated with electricity supply companies, efforts are being made to ensure no community is left behind in the progress we have made in others.
