The Nigerian Women Peace Initiative (NWPI) has presented an Award of Excellence to Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, the Executive Chairman of Jos South Local Government, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to peacebuilding, good governance, and women and youth empowerment.
The NWPI, an organization dedicated to promoting gender equality and inclusive development, commended Dung for his purposeful leadership and humanitarian projects benefiting the community. During a courtesy visit at his office, the group highlighted his administration’s deliberate inclusion of women in governance, citing key positions such as the Deputy Chairman, Supervisory Councillors, and Special Adviser.
In his response, Dung expressed gratitude for the recognition but emphasized that more work remains to be done.
The Chairman further outlined his administration’s initiatives, including a women’s entrepreneurship program set to graduate its first cohort in fashion and design within weeks. He revealed plans to expand skills acquisition programs, with trained women potentially serving as instructors at the Skill Acquisition Center being built in Gyel.
Hon. Dung reaffirmed his commitment to partnering with organizations like NWPI to advance women’s empowerment, describing their role in nation-building as indispensable.
