In a significant boost to grassroots commerce, the Executive Chairman of Jos South Local Government Council, Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, has distributed ₦100,000 each to 300 market women across the five districts of the local government area.

The empowerment initiative, aimed at supporting small-scale businesses and improving the livelihoods of residents, is part of the administration’s campaign promises to the people.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Hon. Silas reaffirmed his commitment to the economic well being of the residents, stating that the programme was designed to uplift local traders. He acknowledged the support of Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mannaseh Mutfwang, noting that the initiative would not have been possible without the governor’s backing.

The Chairman disclosed that the council plans to empower a total of 600 women under the scheme. He explained that the current exercise represents the first phase, with 300 beneficiaries receiving the ₦100,000 grants, while the second phase will follow subsequently.

Hon. Silas who doubles as ALGON Deputy Chairman urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds by investing them into their businesses rather than viewing the money as a windfall. He noted that the success of the first phase would determine the rollout of the second phase.

The initiative received commendation from various stakeholders, including the Leader of the Jos South Local Government Legislative Council, Emmanuel Chomoshen, and the Jos South APC Chairman, who was represented by the party’s Secretary, Christopher Pam. The APC Women Leader, Augustina Pam, also lauded the chairman’s efforts.

They collectively encouraged the women to invest the money wisely to strengthen their businesses and improve their families’ economic conditions.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Christiana Dalyop expressed gratitude to the council chairman for the financial support. She prayed for God’s blessings upon the chairman and his advisers for their contributions towards the welfare of the women.
