The administration of Hon. Silas Patrick Dung began with a precise visionary mantra, “Sei Vwel”. This phrase in Berom language stands for RESTORATION. From its first day in office, this administration has proven in words and in deeds a strong commitment to this idea by restoring the dignity of human existence through using taxpayers’ money to meet the challenges confronting the people.
The desire to provide and improve critical infrastructure within communities led to the construction of the following:
Gyel District:
The people of Gura Loh Ban have over the years suffered the loss of land as a result of erosion, mining activities, and flooding. These natural and human activities created a large open channel that over the years affected mobility of humans and motorists in the area, affecting access to education and healthcare, especially in times of emergency. Previous administrations of the Local Government made considerable efforts to provide a bridge to solve this problem but left it uncompleted. A few weeks after resuming office, the administration of Hon. Silas Patrick Dung undertook a full-scale assessment of the project and in less than three months, had the bridge completed and put to use. The community has been enjoying the benefits as human activities have continued unhindered, making education and healthcare access seamless.
Vwang District:
The condition in Vwang District, Vwang Kogot, was much more terrible as the entire community for donkey years has been totally cut off every rainy season. Not only farming, schooling, and healthcare are affected as a result of lack of access road to and from this community, the community has also suffered terror attacks from bandits. Members of the community are left to their fate on such occasions due to lack of road access. Most times, security personnel can do little in the area when there is a security threat. This administration, at the request of the community through their elected representative, constructed a three-cell box culvert linking the community not only to parts of Vwang District but also to Riyom Local Government. As a result of this effort, activities are now normal, the people feel safer, and farming, schooling, and access to healthcare services are now reachable.
Du District:
Construction of a bridge at Zot Shen. Similar to the conditions in Vwang, the people of Zot Shen have suffered poor access to their farmlands and basic amenities, especially during the rainy season, depriving them of basic livelihood and resulting in hard living conditions. The administration of Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, again on community request, made a careful assessment of the demand and has since made efforts and is currently completing the Zot Shen bridge. This bridge has enjoyed great commendation, especially from neighbouring communities in Barkin Ladi who will be potential beneficiaries of the project when completed and put to use.
Kuru District:
Construction of a three-cell box culvert at Kushe. This project is not only a necessity for basic human activities but also symbolic. Community stakeholders approached the administration of Hon. Silas Patrick Dung not only to provide this pathway for ease of movement and access to amenities but also to preserve their main entrance to all communities in Kuru. The effort made in Kushe Ward will link Kuru A, Kuru B, and Kushe Ward. Since its completion, life has become normal and activities flourish.
CONSTRUCTION AND COMPLETION OF COMMUNITY TOWN HALLS
The administration of Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, in its effort to restore human dignity, places priority on creating an avenue where community members can meet and discuss issues that directly impact them. This avenue will also double as training centres and for social gatherings. These avenues are also expected to become income-generating centres to meet future challenges. Notable achievements in this area include:
Du District:
The construction of a one thousand (1,000) capacity hall at Kwang. This edifice is completed and ready for commissioning.
Kuru District:
Completion of Community one thousand (1000) Town Hall in Kushe:
Amongst the districts of Jos South LGA, Kuru had remained without a community town hall, thereby missing all the benefits that come with it. In a bid to achieve this goal, Kuru community women took a bold step to begin a community town hall. In bits, the community invited political office holders in the past for inputs. Some contributed, but for not less than ten (10) years the town hall remained uncompleted. In a twist of events, the community decided to hand over the entire project to the administration of Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, and in less than three months, the town hall has been reshaped, giving it a befitting look, and it is almost ready for use.
Vwang District:
Completion of Community Town Hall in Chugwi:
In Chugwi Ward of Vwang District, the administration embarked on the completion of the community town hall, which has since been used by members of the community for community engagements, social gatherings, and the like.
Improvements in critical infrastructure were not only embarked upon in communities across Jos South LGA. Within the Council Secretariat, this administration made efforts to make the work environment conducive for staff by providing:
- A standard computer laboratory to ease workload and ensure effective documentation in the Secretariat.
- A completed Secretariat Chapel for reflection, peaceful contemplation, and prayers. This chapel is open to both staff and members of Jos South who wish to make use of it for its purpose.
- Affected by a windstorm, the Secretariat gate collapsed. Within three months, this administration reconstructed a new Secretariat gate with modern security features.
The administration of Hon. Silas Patrick Dung has continued to be grateful to members of our communities for the cooperation shown in the course of these two years. It is your willingness to air your views and approach the government with clear, precise solutions to these problems that has inspired these efforts. We know there is more work to be done, and we are constantly ready to continue making efforts. We will continue to rely on your collaboration for the remaining period of this administration.
