The Executive Chairman of Jos South Local Government Area, Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, has pledged his administration’s full support for a new initiative to digitize tricycle revenue collection. The commitment was made during a stakeholders’ briefing and the presentation of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Plateau State Ministry of Transport, Jos South LGA, and technology firm Giopat DC Ltd.
The Deputy ALGON Chairman, emphasized that the primary motivation for his support is the enhanced safety and security the digital system offers to citizens. He argued that the benefits of modernizing such systems, common in larger metropolitan areas, are essential for the growth of Plateau State.
Addressing the natural resistance to new policies, Hon. Silas stressed that it is incumbent upon stakeholders to work towards achieving government introduced initiatives.
Hon. Silas emphasized that the digitized platform represents the best method to block revenue leakage, ensuring all accrued revenue is properly accounted for. He further assured tricycle unions that their interests were carefully considered in the planning stages, stating that the system was designed with all stakeholders in mind to ensure a smooth and successful take off.
While acknowledging that Jos South has a smaller tricycle population than neighboring LGAs, the Chairman expressed a desire to see the business operate within his jurisdiction with greater order. He welcomed Giopat DC Ltd to operate in Jos South but warned that any business violating local laws would be fined.
The Chairman expressed openness to further engagement and a willingness to revisit the terms if necessary, but firmly stated that the safety of citizens remains the government’s top priority.
Meanwhile the Executive Chairman attended the fourth day of the 11th Plateau State Council on Health held at Crispan Hotel, Rayfield Road, Jos.
The event, which began on Monday, August 18th, is themed “Repositioning Plateau State Health Systems Towards Universal Health Coverage.
