The Jos South Local Government Championship Cup 2026 concluded on a high note over the weekend, with Gyel A clinching the title after a hard-fought victory against Du A in the final match. Beyond the trophy and celebrations, the Executive Chairman of Jos South, Hon Silas Patrick Dung, who serves as the Deputy ALGON Chair, hailed the tournament as a resounding success in fostering unity among diverse communities across the local government and beyond.
The competition, which drew participants and spectators from various backgrounds, cultures, and religions, was designed to use football as a unifying force. According to the Executive Chairman of Jos South, the championship achieved its intended goal by bringing people from all walks of life together under one umbrella. Speaking after the final, he expressed satisfaction that the event attracted crowds not only from across Jos South but also from other parts of the state, all eager to witness a tournament built on the principles of peace and togetherness. He emphasized that the main aim of the project was precisely this, to create a platform where differences dissolve in the spirit of sport, and he noted that the turnout and atmosphere confirmed that mission had been accomplished.
Individual honors were also handed out following the final whistle. Tis David of Gyel A Ward was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament. His teammate Jerry Choji claimed the Highest Goal Scorer (HGS) award after his prolific run in front of goal. Bonshak Joshua, also of Gyel A Ward, was recognized as the Best Goalkeeper for his exceptional saves and composure. Meanwhile, the Best Behave Team (BBT) award went to Zawan B Ward, honored for their discipline and sportsmanship across the competition.
In addition a medal of honor was presented to the Executive Chairman of Jos South and one presented to Coach Bitrus Bewarang and Hon Peter Vwangdung.

Bature Sati Shuwa; former Minority Leader and APC Candidate for Plateau Northern Senatorial Zone,Senator Simon Mwadkon Fwet; General Manager of PRTV, Kachollom Rita Pam; Arch. Hart Bankat GM JMDB; Hon. Yusuf Haruna Pam, Jos South APC Party chairman; Coach Bitrus Bewarang; Deputy Chairman Ngo Kachollom Lucy Michael; Leader Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Chomoshen; Secretary of the Council Hon. Dusu David Dagwi; Former TIC chairman Hon. Peter Vwangdung and Committee Chairman Mr. Larry Gowon and members. Also present were Suprvisory Councilors, honorable Councilors; Hon. Vincent Mancha, Jos South APC Candidate for Plateau State House of Assembly, Appointees of the Chairman and football veterans across the state.
With the success of the 2026 edition, the championship has set a precedent for how sports can bridge divides, leaving many hopeful that the initiative will continue to grow in the years ahead.
